Today we acknowledged International Day Against Homophobia at my K - 8 school.

Most of the teachers, and many of the students wore pink, to acknowledge this event.. http://www.pinkshirtday.ca/about/
Teachers were encouraged to embed discussion of the issues into their lessons, in which ever way fit their classes. Some teachers showed this video.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnYWCtX3Us4
Some teachers read books such as In Our Mothers’ House by Patricia Polacco. Other teachers just had discussions with their classes.
During the nutrition breaks (our students eat their snacks and lunches in their classrooms) music was played over the PA. All songs were written by or sung by LGBTQ artists.
It was a good start.
